FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQS

HOW DO WE BOOK YOU?

To book us for your wedding date, you simply need to sign our contract and pay a non-refundable $1000 flat deposit. The remaining balance is due 30 days before the wedding. Payment plans are available. This can all be done easily online through our booking site. All prices are quoted in USD.

We accept cash, check, and credit cards. Credit cards are accepted and subject to a 3% fee. As a small business owner, eating the 3% fee adds up very quickly and can cost us upwards of $10,000 each year. We prefer to invest this money towards giving you, our amazing couples, a better experience with more gear, insurance, and lots of other little goodies ;)

HOW AND WHEN WILL WE RECEIVE OUR PHOTOS AFTER THE WEDDING?

You’ll receive your photos in an online gallery 4-5 weeks after the wedding as well as a USB drive. All of the high-resolution edited images are yours to keep, download, print, and share.

WHAT ARE YOUR TRAVEL FEES?

For any wedding outside of the five boroughs of NYC there is a travel charge of $150. For weddings that are more than 60 miles and/or 90 minutes drive from Brooklyn, NY, there will be a travel charge of $300 and hotel room(s) for 1 or 2 nights – dependent on where your wedding is, what time coverage ends and if you book in a second shooter. For interstate & international weddings, the travel fee is generally the cost of our flights, 3 nights accommodation and car rental if needed. We will provide you with a travel quote and all travel arrangements are booked by Katherine. We’ll add the cost of accommodations to your final invoice.

CAN WE SEE A FULL WEDDING GALLERY?

Hell yes! We highly recommend viewing several full galleries to get a full feel of what you will receive of the day from beginning to end. Just let us know which ones are your favorites, and we'll send them over ;)

DO WE NEED A SECOND PHOTOGRAPHER?

We recommend a second photographer if there will be more than 80 guests, if you aren’t seeing each other before the ceremony, or if there are many details to be photographed.

WHO WOULD THAT SECOND PHOTOGRAPHER BE?

Someone in the Wilde Scout family. About 2-3 months before your date, we will reserve one of my three in-house photographers based on availability. We are team. They work with us on a regular basis and have been trained directly by Katherine. We will all be there for you come wedding day.

IS EVERY PHOTO EDITED? AND WHAT THE HECK DOES THAT MEAN?

Yes they are! One by one, each image is carefully edited and run through three times. For us, “editing” is to go through all of the photos at least twice and choose the best ones, basically discarding the double chin, blinky-eyed photos that are either side of the perfect moment. I then color correct and adjust tones to create photos that have a slight film-like matte quality to them. You will receive a greater portion of color photos, sprinkled with some black & white. If you especially love black & white, please mention this and we will include more.

HOW MANY IMAGES WILL WE RECEIVE?

Approximately 50-100 photos per contracted hour. The number varies depending how much is going on and if you have a second shooter.

DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE?

Yes, my general liability insurance covers up to $2M per occurrence / $4M aggregate, and all of my gear is insured. We can provide a Certificate of Insurance to your venue if needed.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU WORK WITH?

A slew of Fuji X-T2 cameras with all X-series prime lenses (24, 35, 50, 85, 100). Katherine shoots primarily with a digital medium-format Fuji GFX camera. We will set up a small light stand during the reception (don't worry, you won't even notice it's there!), but nearly everything else is working with natural light.

DO YOU HAVE BACKUP GEAR?

Yes, and lots of it. We come to every wedding with backup bodies, lenses, and memory cards.

WHAT IS THIS WHOLE PORTRAIT SESSION THING? DO WE HAVE TO DO IT?

The phrase “engagement session” makes us shudder. Instead, we call these portrait sessions. We start at home and then venture out to your neighborhood. It is incredibly valuable for all of us, especially if you’re not comfortable with being photographed all day. This session completely dissolves these awkward feelings so that, on your wedding day, you don’t feel us in the room. And for us, this session shows me how you interact with each other and what it’s like to photograph you, so that on your wedding day there’s a mutual feeling of “we got this” because we have been through it before! We like to know my couples. We don’t want to photograph a stranger’s wedding. This is why this session is very dear to us and beneficial for all of us. We pinky promise!
